Mazenod College celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2027, creating an opportunity to reflect on its history while presenting the College confidently to its community today. I have led the creative direction of the anniversary campaign since it began in 2023, spanning a major commemorative publication, photography, video and communications. My role has been to bring these different parts of the program together around a consistent story and visual approach.

2023 – Present
A 60th anniversary could easily become a collection of disconnected historical stories, events and commemorative pieces. I wanted the program to have a clearer creative centre that could connect Mazenod’s past with the community that exists today.
One Heart, One Soul became that idea. Drawn from language already embedded in Mazenod’s identity and history, it provides a thread through the anniversary program without relying on nostalgia alone.
Since the project began in 2023, I have developed the broader creative and communications approach across interviews, video, photography, publication and campaign material, creating a framework that can adapt across different formats while remaining part of the same story.

The anniversary began with the stories of the people who helped shape Mazenod.
We commissioned Tony De Bolfo, Carlton Football Club Journalist/Historian, to interview prominent Old Collegians and past Principals and Rectors, building a collection of first-hand accounts from across the College’s history.
For key interviews, I developed and produced a complementary video series, recording these conversations so the personalities, voices and memories behind the written stories could also be preserved. I led the video production across filming, lighting, audio and post-production, creating a consistent visual treatment across interviews recorded over several years.
These films will ultimately extend the anniversary beyond the printed page, with QR codes throughout the commemorative book allowing readers to watch selected interviews alongside the written profiles.
The interviews form part of a broader coffee-table book documenting Mazenod’s first sixty years through the people, stories and experiences that shaped the College.
Rather than producing a conventional chronological history, the publication brings together long-form profiles, archival material, photography and personal recollections to create something that feels both commemorative and contemporary.
With the research and interview program established, Hyphen is now working with the College to compile the stories and develop the final publication. I continue to lead the project from Mazenod’s side, guiding the creative direction and ensuring the book, anniversary identity, photography and video remain connected as the publication develops.
The value of the anniversary program is in how these pieces connect.
An interview can become a written profile, a filmed conversation and part of the historical record. Photography can move between the publication, campaign and digital communications, while the anniversary identity provides a consistent visual thread without requiring every output to look the same.
My role has been to establish that direction and carry it across disciplines and collaborators as the project develops, bringing storytelling, video, photography, publication and communications together around one central idea.
